چکیده
Heparin-İnduced Thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life-threatening complication that occurs in small percentage of exposed patients (e.g. unfractionated heparin, Low Molecular Weight Heparin [LMWH]) regardless dose and treatment management.

Heparin induced thrombocytopenia
Abstract Background and Objectives Heparin is still a commonly used anticoagulant in prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic events. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life-threating adverse drug reaction of heparin. The diagnosis of HIT is made based on two important criteria, firstly clinical evaluation and secondly laboratory testing. In this comprehensive review, the authors w...

PURPOSE To review recent developments in the pathogenesis, clinical features, laboratory testing and treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). METHODS Narrative review of the literature, including relevant papers published in English or French. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Although the prevalence of HIT has decreased with the widespread use of low molecular weight heparin in the past ten y...
متن کاملHeparin-induced thrombocytopenia: diagnosis and management.
Heparin is the predominant anticoagulant used in cardiac and vascular surgery. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is one of the most serious and life-threatening adverse drug reactions associated with heparin use. In addition to the development of thrombocytopenia, HIT is associated with a high risk (40-50%) of thrombotic complications. The pathophysiology of HIT is now well understood and ...
متن کاملHeparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia Diagnosis and Management
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an adverse drug reaction characterized by thrombocytopenia and a high risk for venous or arterial thrombosis.1 It is caused by heparin-dependent, plateletactivating antibodies that recognize a “self” protein, platelet factor 4 (PF4), bound to heparin. The resulting platelet activation is associated with increased thrombin generation (Figure).2 Typically...
متن کاملNew developments in diagnosis and treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a drug induced immune mediated thrombocytopenia that affects up to 3% of patients treated with unfractionated heparin (UFH). It is less frequent when low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) are used. Fondaparinux does not seem to induce HIT. A functional and an antigen assay should be performed to confirm the clinical diagnosis of HIT. Immediate cessation ...
